Reenactment of Vernon's First Town Meeting : The town of Vernon celebrated its 200th birthday on Monday, October 13, 2008. To honor the event, Rockville High School students wrote (authors Melanie Lieberman and Dawn Rzeznikiewicz) and acted (too many to list) in a play about Vernon's first town meeting...with a little help from three adults who hold offices in Vernon and Bolton. Held in the basement of the First Congregational Church of Vernon, the evening also included historical commentary by Jean Luddy, President of the Vernon Historical Society. A major highlight of the evening included an exhibit of vintage women’s attire, presented by Sheila English, another Rickville High School student. From a very young age, Sheila has been collecting items (mostly clothing) dating from the Victorian era through the mid-twentieth century. She will even wear the clothing on occasion, as she did this evening, displaying a style and grace almost never seen in a teenage girl of today. Vernon Bicentennial Flag Presentation : April 7, 2009: The Vernon Bicentennial Flag was presented to Mayor McCoy and the Town of Vernon. It will be hung in the Vernon Town Hall. Several members of the Bicentennial Committe made the presentation at the Vernon Town Meeting.
